Shipping Scene, Today - By S.P. Singh, CEO
There is a time to rejoice and time to sulk; hit by slings and arrows of the shipowners as it used to be for the shippies of yesteryears.but now all the 'guardian -angels' as Mr.Kasturi termed them the MMD and insurance Surveyors who stood firmly between the seamen and God.,have turned their backs to the seamen, bringing in big fat fees from them to the Govt.'s exchequer and making sure they do it again and again.Revalidation fees have gone up to two hundred and fifty times since we sat for exams. The Directorate General has gone commercial. One has to struggle thro' one set of orders then another is imposed with equanimity, and super-imposing on the previous, asking sixty-five year old back to sea in a lower rank.Same trend is going -on and on.There would be obvious rebellion and the same pacifiedSuch Shipping scenes have to be made public, either thro' abook or initially onthe blog, the same being in vogue today. Not withstanding the good work of the NUSI and MUI,the individuals have to take -up the cudgel.
